7th PanCareLIFE General Assembly Meeting

Members of the PanCareLIFE consortium met in Drogheda, Ireland for the 7th PanCareLIFE General Assembly Meeting, 17 – 18 Oct 2016.

The focus was on data collection as the Call for Data closes on 31 Oct 2016. Our data providers have made excellent progress and data is already on it’s way to the Data Centre in Mainz, Germany. We also heard about progress in the development of fertility guidelines and our intervention study on education about fertility preservation.

Giulio d’Angio Prize for Best Poster

Eva Clemens’ poster was selected by the nominating committee of the 2016 European Symposium on Late Complications after Childhood Cancer for the Giulio d’Angio prize in Copenhagen on 23 September 2016.

Eva studied Biomedical Sciences and is a PhD candidate at the Department of Pediatric Oncology at the Erasmus Medical Center. Her PhD thesis is based on ototoxicity during and after childhood cancer, and she expects to complete my doctoral degree in 2018. Her supervisor is Prof. M.M. van den Heuvel-Eibrink. She lives in a cosy apartment in Rotterdam together with her boyfriend.

Congratulations Eva!

European Symposium on Late Complications after Childhood Cancer 2016

The Danish Cancer Society hosted the European Symposium on Late Complications after Childhood Cancer 22 – 23 Sept 2016 in Copenhagen. PanCareLIFE researcher Dr. Jeanette Falck Winther was an organiser. The symposium is the largest European multidisciplinary event on late complications after treatment of childhood cancer. The Copenhagen 2016 symposium explored best practices in the detection and management of late complications after treatment of childhood cancer.

18th PanCare Meeting to be held in Erice

The 18th PanCare meeting will be held in Erice, Italy from 01 – 03 Nov 2016.

Erice has been chosen as the meeting venue because 10 years have passed since PanCare members convened in this fascinating village in Sicily to attend the “Cure and Care After Childhood Cancer” workshop when the “Erice Statement” about childhood cancer survivors was drafted. The Statement was published in the European Journal of Cancer, translated into at least 7 languages and was one of the main pillars upon which the PanCare Network was founded in 2008.

On the afternoon of 01 November, the network will celebrate of the 10th anniversary of the Erice Statement. Distinguished speakers have been invited from Europe and the United States to present their views on the history and perspectives of childhood cancer survivorship, what we have achieved and the work that remains to be done. The meeting will then continue on 02 – 03 November with discussions and presentations and will mainly focus on the development and dissemination of guidelines for long-term follow-up.
